Beautiful BF Goodrich Tires NOS Painted Steel Sign This large sign is really striking to look at with the dark navy background, yellow letters and green border. It measures 72″ x 31″ and appears to never have been hung. There are mounting holes around the edges and one in the center. The year marking is 1953, so its 65 years old. The sign is heavy, so we can confirm that it is not tin metal. It does have some “rub” markings where something was laid on it at a given point in time. And, to maintain the originality of the piece, we have not polished anything out. The painted letters are slightly raised, not embossed, so you can tell it was painted in layers similar to the early porcelain signs. History shows that in the 50’s, many sign makers were creating new processes beyond porcelain, and this is a terrific example of a New, Old Stock Painted Steel Sign. Two cool facts are: that the first car to drive across the United States was fitted with BF Goodrich tires in 1903; the Spirit of St. Louis flown by Charles Lindbergh was also fitted with BFG tires in 1927. This sign is currently located in Lexington, KY. The item “Beautiful Vintage BF Goodrich Tires NOS Painted Steel Signs” is in sale since Friday, February 02, 2018.
