U. S. Royal Uniroyal Safety 1st Tire Sign Vintage Original 1950’s LARGE
Oooh, have we got a good one for you. Fresh from the estate of a collector of oddball automobilia is this original die-cut 24″ x 23″ U. Royal’s infamous “SAFETY 1st” sign in the design of highway signs at the time. These tires were the bees knees in the area this was picked since the Uniroyal U. Royal employed so many people locally. Hell, If you rolled around Chicopee, Ma with anything other than Tiger Paws on your muscle car they’d probably get slashed. Anyways, nice original sign here. Has minor scuffing on the raised edges as shown in the 7th photo, and has a few spots where it appears there was a manufacturing defect where the white paint didn’t stick over the blue basecoat. Normally I would say it chipped off, but looking at the condition of the other paint and seeing no signs of chipping, and seeing no damage near these spots I’d guess they were made like this. Seeing as this has all of it’s original shine, at the right angle you can see some bends in the sign. I did my best to photograph them. If this were stored outside and not as shiny as it is, I wouldn’t have noticed. Last, at some point this was used to advertise a car wash. I’m sure you could wash it off, but to me it adds a lot of character. Marking on the front indicated this was made in 1958. For this size it looks like the only year it was made.
