Vintage Japanese Repair Shop Thermometer Toyo Truck Tire Advertising Working
Vintage Japanese Indoor Room Thermometer. Toyo Auto/Truck Tire Trade Advertising Promotional. Fully Functioning & Surprisingly Accurate. Nearly 3 Feet Long!! 35.5″ Long x 4 3/4″ Wide (approximate). Imagine this piece hanging on the wall of a Japanese tire shop or truck repair garage. Given how wide and beefy that tread is. This was likely marketing for truck tires. Toyo Tire and Rubber was founded in Japan in 1945 and began exporting commercial truck tires approximately 70 years ago. To this day, Toyo has its strongest reputation for commercial tires and increasingly for off road vehicles such as Jeeps and other 4 x 4’s. Exactly how hold this thermometer is, I don’t know. Given the patina of the paint and metal fitting, use of wood rather than plastic, and the use of hand hammered nails as opposed to screws suggests it was created in the early 1960s at the latest.
